12 July 2013: What is my right to rest breaks under the Working Time Regulations 1998?
Daily rest: All adult workers must be given a minimum of eleven consecutive hours rest during each 24 hour period during which he works for an employer, (12 consecutive hours for a young worker (see Working Time Regulations 1998, reg 10(1) and (2)).
Weekly rest : All adult workers must have an uninterrupted rest period of not less than either:
- 24 hours in each seven-day period (48 hours hours for a young worker) ; or
- 48 uninterrupted hours or two separate uninterrupted 24 hour periods each fortnight.
Rest breaks: Every adult worker must have an uninterrupted rest break of not less than 20 minutes if their daily working time is more than six hours, (30 minutes for a young worker working than 4.5)
Monotonous work & Drivers: There are further special rules for workers doing monotonous work and for drivers.
