2 October 2015: National Minimum Wage Rises:
The National Minimum Wage increased on the 1 October 2015 as follows:
- The standard adult rate (workers aged 21 and over) is now £6.70.
- The development rate (workers aged between 18 and 20) is now £5.30.
- The young workers rate (workers aged under 18 but above the compulsory school age who are not apprentices) is now £3.87.
- The rate for apprentices is now £3.30.
From 1 October 2015, the ‘accommodation offset’ (for example for pub staff with accommodation provided on site) is £5.35 each day.
As widely reported, the government plans to replace the NMW by a National Living Wage in April 2016, when a new mandatory National Living Wage (NLW) for workers aged 25 and above, will be initially set at £7.20 – a rise of 50p relative to the current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate.
